School Calendar adjusted

— The Gentry School Board approved a revised calendar Monday night to help make up for the five instructional days lost at the beginning of January due to snow-packed and icy roads and extreme cold.

The district’s Personnel Policy Committee took a ballot vote of teachers last week to obtain the approval necessary for the board to revise the district’s current school calendar.

A summary of the changes follows:

◊Making April 2, Good Friday, an instruction day by provisions of the original calendar;

◊Making Jan. 18, Martin Luther King, Jr., Day, an instruction day;

◊Making Feb. 15 and 16 instruction days with early release of students forparent-teacher conferences;

◊Making June 1 an instructional day; and

◊Making June 2 and 3 professional development days for teachers.

Gentry School District superintendent Dr. Randy Barrett said state law prohibits using Memorial Day as a make-up day unless more than five days have been missed. Should additional days be lost due to winter weather, scheduling an instructional day on Memorial day would become an option for the board.
