City positions up for election in November

— The office of mayor and all six city council positions will be up for election next November.

Community members interested in running for office will need to file their nominating petitions with the Benton County Clerk’s Office in August, although the exact filing dates have yet to be announced.

For Decatur, which is a City of the Second Class, candidates must get 10 signatures from qualified voters of the town. New candidates must also file a statement of financial interest and a campaign contribution and expenditure report by September.

City council members serve two-year terms and the mayor serves a four-year term. Aldermen candidates may file for positions on the city council for the ward in which they live. Two aldermen are selected to represent each of the three wards.

Information packets, filing requirements and forms are available at the County Clerk’s Office in Bentonville, at 215 E Central Avenue, Suite 217; in Rogers, at 300 W Poplar Street, Suite 2; or in Siloam Springs, at 707 S Lincoln Street, Suite C. Candidates are urged to pick up the packets in person so they can recieve further instruction.
