New Streets Provide Access To Schools

— Traffic management around the Gravette school downtown campus will be easier with the completion of two new access streets to the campus.

The roads, both of which are accessible from Birmingham Street S.E., will particularly involve vehicle access to both the upper elementary and middle school buildings.

That in turn, coupled with an extension of paved roadway south and west of Glenn Duffy Elementary, is expected to impact favorably for vehicles traveling to that building.

The improvements are part of the continuing school upgrade plans andare a result of restructuring bonds last approved by voters. The new high school gymnasium and middle school music building, both under construction, are part of that plan.

One of the new streets, designated Seventh Avenue, is located east of the school administration building and moves traffic south to the middle school.

The other street, designated Eighth Avenue, directs traffic from Birmingham south and east behind the gymnasium to the upper elementary school building.

Street signs have been installed along Birmingham Street to assist motorists asthey become acquainted with the new access streets.

Richard Carver, Director of Transportation and Facilities, said the following traffic routes are effective immediately:

◊Glenn Duffy Elementary - is accessible from El Paso Street or Sixth Avenue;

◊Upper Elementary - is accessible from Eighth Avenue exiting off Birmingham Street or Dallas Street to Eighth Avenue; and

◊Middle School - is accessible from Dallas Street exiting to either Seventh or Eighth Avenues.
