— Vurtie Martha Esther Watts Lowery Bousman

Vurtie Martha Esther Watts Lowery Bousman, 98, of Gentry, died Jan. 19, 2010, at Quail Ridge Living Center in West Siloam Springs, Okla.

She was born Nov. 16, 1911, in Gainesville, Mo., to Thomas and Liza Deboard Watts. She was the wife of the late Okla Lowery from 1930 to 1963 and William Bousman from 1969 to 1984. She had raised chickens for Tyson and Jeff D. Brown. She liked to sew, crochet, garden and go to yard sales. She was of the Pentecostal faith.

She is survived by a daughter, Dottie Laffoon and husband Jack of Westville, Okla.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Velva Cole of Washington.

Funeral services were held Jan 22 at First Assembly of God Church in Gentry with Millard Huett officiating. Burial was at Fairmount Cemetery. Arrangements were by Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Siloam Springs.

Angie Rolus

Angie Rolus, of Sayre, Okla., died Jan. 20, 2010.

She was born Aug. 18, 1937, in Pryor, Okla., to Serepta and Virgle Littlefield. She grew up in Locust Grove, Okla., and received her education at Little Rock schools. She was married to Henry Rolus Sr. at Jay, Okla., on July 24, 1958, and lived in Siloam Springs. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and needle point.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, a grandson, three brothers, and two sisters.

She is survived by five daughters, Joanie Stanley and husband Harlin, of Colcord, Okla., Jessie Edwards of Elk City, Okla., Anna Rolus and husband Jerry Morten of Oklahoma City, Okla., Susie Bynum, of Sayre, and Virginia Vernon and husband, Charlie of Kansas; three sons, Waco Vernon of Watts, Okla., Henry Rolus Jr. and wife Retha of Sayre, and Jimmy Rolus of Sayre; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Littlefield of Miami, Okla.; and a sister, Barbara Arnette of Locust Grove, Okla.

Graveside services were held at Rose Oklahoma Cemetery on Jan. 25. Rose Chapel Funeral Service of Sayre was in charge of arrangements.

Beatriz Salcedo

Beatriz Salcedo, 59, of Siloam Springs, died Jan. 21, 2010, at her home.

She was born April 5, 1951 in Torreon, Mexico, to Alfonzo Escarcega and Fransica Rodriguez. She married Victor Salcedo on June 1, 1969, in Torreon. She had been employed at SWEPCO. She enjoyed spending time with her family and cooking. She was of the Catholic faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of the home; a daughter, Betty Gray and husband David of Ft. Gibson, Okla.; three sons, Victor Salcedo Jr. and wife Joy of Eufaula, Okla., Alfonso Salcedo and wife Mary of Siloam Springs, and Marco Salcedo and wife Roxy of Siloam Springs; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Julia Verrette of Siloam Springs, Fransica Juarez of Siloam Springs, and Patricia Rodriguez of Mexico; and two brothers, Luis Escarcega of Tulsa, Okla., and Jorge Escarcega of Mexico.

Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Siloam Springs on Jan. 23, 2010, with Father Marco Salvador officiating. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Siloam Springs. Arrangements were by Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Siloam Springs.

Janet Brown

Janet Marie Brown, 58, of Siloam Springs, died Jan. 20, 2010, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville.

She was born Jan. 29, 1951, in Siloam Springs, to John A. Graves and Hazel McKinney Graves. She was a lifetime resident of Siloam Springs. She taught reading and English from kindergarten through college levels. She taught in Siloam Springs, Gravette, Gentry and at John Brown University. She was a member of International Reading Teachers Association and First Baptist Church in Siloam Springs. She married Dennis Hayden Brown on Aug. 7, 1971.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; three daughters, Carrie Hurley and husband Andrew, Michelle Emmitt and husband John, and Rachel Brown, all of Amarillo, Texas; five grandchildren; one brother, Dr. Stephen Graves of Rudy; three sisters, Anna Mae Berwick of Valley Center, Kan., Marlene Williams of Overland Park, Kan., and Clydell Knoner of Siloam Springs.

Memorial services were Saturday at First Baptist Church, Siloam Springs, with Steve Abbott and Mike Rogers officiating. Ronald Glenn Spencer

Ronald Glenn Spencer, a resident of Bella Vista, Ark., died in his daughter’s home on Jan. 18, 2010.

He was born in Salinas, Calif., to Grace Sutera and Daniel Spencer on Feb. 26, 1954. Ronald lived in California most of his life, moving to Arkansas in 2002. He worked in aircraft manufacturing for 20 years and then moved on to Wal-Mart for another 10 years before retiring. He loved model trains and spending time with his family, especially the grandkids.

He is survived by his two daughters, Jeanette Cooley and her husband Doug of Gentry, Veronica Thiele and her husband Evan of Bella Vista; and his son Ronald Spencer and his wife Christina of Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren; his mother, Grace Banister of Highland, Calif.; and three brothers, Bob Spencer and his wife Denise of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Paul Banister of Highland, Calif., and Mike Banister of Pomona, Calif.

He is preceded in death by his father, Dan Spencer; and stepfather, Billy Banister.

A memorial service was held Tuesday at Grace Harbor Church, with Stan Webb officiating. Cremation arrangements were by Stockdale Funeral Services of Rogers.
