Brill and Sewell lead Gentry to district title

— Nick Brill took home Most Valuable Player honors as Gentry topped Springdale Tyson 13-2 in the finals of the Senior Babe Ruth league tournament at the Tyson Sports Complex on Wednesday.

Brill blasted a two-run home run in the top of thethird inning to give Gentry a 3-2 lead. The Pioneers added 10 runs over the final two innings to win going away.

Tyson committed eight errors over five innings. Four of the errors came in the fifth inning when Gentry scored six runs on just two hits.

Brill allowed two runs in a complete game effort topick up the win. The righthander struck out seven through five innings.

Gentry collected eight hits as a team. John Sewell and Dusty Roads each had two hits and two RBIs. Springdale was led by Devin Bryan (2-for-2) and Dustin Jones (2-for-2, RBI).

The Senior Babe Ruth State Tournament will be begin July 8 at Veterans Park in Rogers.

Gentry 4 Carroll County 3

Gentry starter Keevan Allen struck out nine in a complete-game effort against Carroll County to help the Pioneers earn a spot in the finals.

John Sewell doubled home Dusty Roads for the game-winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Allen walked three and allowed three hits through six innings. All three batters who walked wound up scoring for Carroll County.

Gentry 6, Elkins 1 (6)

Second-seeded Gentry broke open a close game with a four-run fifth inning. Gage Stanfill hit a two-run double before scoring on an error for a 5-1 lead. Josh Corter then scored on a wild pitch to cap the scoring.

Tyler Tucker had an RBI single in the first inning and Landon Harwell scored on an error in the second for an early 2-0 lead.

Avery Harrison had an RBI pop fly in the second for Elkins’ lone run.

Both teams had four hits, but Gentry took advantage of 10 walks and three errors.
