Employees rewarded with raisin pie

— Mayor Wes Hogue honored city employees on June 29 by hosting the Raisin Pie Awards and treating employees to a piece or two of pie in the McKee Community Room of the Gentry Public Library.

The occasion for the special event was an award received by the city of Gentry at the 76th annual convention of the Arkansas Municipal League in June.

The city was the recipient of the Four-Star Municipality Award for loss control in the areas of employee safety and wellness, vehicle safety, and in the prevention of legal liability. The award indicates that city employees and elected officials have excelled in preventing losses to the city and the taxpayers in the above areas.

Because the award was made possible by the “job well done” by city employees, the mayor chose to reward employees with pie from the Wooden Spoon Restaurant. After a brief speech and presenting the Four-Star Award to department heads, employees lined up to have a piece of pie - raisin pie and a variety of other pies were on hand, provided by the mayor and with no expenditure of public funds.

“What we are really here for today,” Hogue said, “is to say, ‘Thank you,’ for a job well done by our team of employees, volunteers and elected and appointed officials who provide services to our community.”

Hogue complimented not only the city’s paid employees but themany volunteers who serve at the library, seniorcenter, fire department, police department and on the planning commission and parks advisory board.

“Thank you for being the honest, hard-working,diligent professionals that you are,” Hogue said. “I have always known and said, ‘We have a great team and we have great employees.’ This award is just evidence that theMunicipal League knows it also,” he added.

The city of Gentry's insurance and liability coverage is provided through the Arkansas Municipal League.
