— Gravette Chamber of Commerce announces plans are gearing up for the annual. Gravette Birthday Party - Gravette Day 2010 - which will be held Saturday, August 14.

Dan Yates, president of the Chamber, said the theme for this year’s celebration is “Be Here - Buy Here” to encourage building and supporting Gravette. That theme will be carried out in the parade which this year will be held at 10 a.m., a departure from the traditional noon time.

Activities will actually begin Friday, Yates said, with the annual youth and Miss Gravette pageants being held that afternoon/evening at the GHS Performing Arts Center. The winners of the various pageants and the crowning of the Miss Gravette will be held Saturday.

The annual classic and antique car show will be held in Old Town Park on Saturday, but registration will begin Friday evening at that location. A barbecue will be held for the early registrants, Yates said. Registration will continue Friday but actual judging will begin at noon, which will allow the entrants to show off their vehicles in the parade.

Following the 10 a.m. Saturday parade, activities will pick up in Kindley Memorial Park with food and entertainment vendors on site for everyone to enjoy and support. A “Prettiest Baby” contest will be held following the parade at about 11:30 followed by announcement of the previous evening’s pageant winners and the crowning of Miss Gravette 2010.

There will be various forms of entertainment in the park following the pageants, Yates said.

Open Houses are scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. at the new Middle School band/ choir room and the new high school fieldhouse. Activities are scheduled so that persons may visit those sites and not miss any of the regular celebration events.

Yates also announced the Farmer’s Market will open in Old Town Park Saturday starting at 11 a.m. Judging of the car show will begin at 1:30 with winners announced at approximately 2 p.m. The Bank of Gravett will hold their traditional “money drop” on Main Street at the conclusion of the parade.

Patrick Hall is the contact person for vendor participation; Dr. Andrea Kelly will be directing the parade and participants are encouraged to indicate their participation.

Desiree Mitchell is again head of the pageant activities. The Boys and Girls Club is sponsor of the car show.

Additional celebration details will be announced as the big day arrives.

Yates said it is hoped there will be many school class reunions and that this year will be a foundation for bigger and better celebrations in the years ahead. If you want information or can offer volunteering to help with events call him at 787-6171.

The Saturday will begin with the annual Kiwanis Club Pancake Breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. at the Middle School Cafeteria.
