BBQ opens window in Gentry

— Those who love the flavor of smoked and barbecued meats have a new option in Gentry to satisfy those hunger pangs - Big Buckle BBQ, owned by Kevin and Katrina Cryer.

The new drive-up and pickup restaurant which opened July 3rd offers a wide variety of sandwiches and dinners, along with side dishes and drinks.

Those wanting a sandwich have a choice of smoked brisket, pork or chicken on a bun - and in a variety of sizes ranging from the Little Buckle, Big Buckle and Buckle Shots (sometimes called sliders). An Uncle Buckle is also offered, which includes hot links, chips and a side.

In the dinner category, customers can choose from one to three meats or get ribs, from a three-rib dinner up to a full rack. And the dinners come with two sides and bread.

Side dishes include baked beans, pinto beans, potato salad, pea salad, coleslaw and corn on the cob.

Family and larger extendedfamily dinners are also available. Smoked brisket, pork and hot links are available by the pound as well.

The new take-out restaurant is located at 217 S. Gentry Blvd., just across the highway from Marvin’s Foods. It’s open everyday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., just the right times for lunch and supper.

Orders can be taken at the window or called in by telephone at 736-2030.

Why did the Cryers open the take-out barbecue?

“I just love cooking,” said Kevin, who formerly worked in the auto parts industry. “It’s what I’ve wanted to do for a long while, and I finally got the chance,” he said.

The Cryers live in Gentry and are long-time residents who chose to stay and make Gentry their home.

Kevin had his moveable restaurant unit specially built at TDS in Siloam Springs for hisbarbecue needs. After completing all the necessary hookups, he has given it a permanent home at its Gentry location - easily seen and accessed from Arkansas Highways 59 and 12.

Big Buckle BBQ is a member of the Gentry Chamber of Commerce, and chamber members held a ribbon cutting at the new restaurant on Thursday to help the Cryers celebrate the opening of their new business.

The Cryers are hoping barbecue lovers will give the restau-rant a try and pick up a sandwich or take home a dinner.

And they’re convinced their customers will be pleased.

“I make it my way,” Kevin said of his smoked and barbecued meat. “People like it,” he added. “I’ve gotten good feedback from my customers.”
