Decatur Night at Arvest Ballpark

— The stands were filled with familiar faces at Sunday’s Northwest Arkansas Naturals game against the Springfield Cardinals.

Residents enjoyed watching the game together at a special Decatur community night at the Arvest Ballpark.

Chamber of Commerce treasurer Amy Brooks said 97 tickets were sold at a special discounted rate for Decatur residents. Brooks said she was pleased with the number of community members who bought tickets.

The game began with Leonard Truitt, the oldest lifetime citizen of Decatur and an avid baseball fan, throwing out the first honorary pitch.

The announcer continued to mention Decatur and the annual Decatur Barbecue throughout the game and featured it on the big screen several times. Children from Decatur played in the on-field games between innings.

The Chamber of Commerce also got to set up a booth just inside the gate to promote the 57th Annual Decatur Barbecue, which is set for Aug. 6 and 7.

The Naturals beat the Cardinals 4-3 in the game.
