Two Carroll County cities have taken different directions toward upgrading their wastewater treatment plants.
The Green Forest City Council voted to abandon plans for a $6 million upgrade to the treatment facility for that city. The city has spent more than $500,000 in engineering fees with two firms in pursuit of plant improvements.
Mayor Charlie Reece who suggested abandoning the upgrade project said a USDA grant is available to pay 75% of the cost of a sludge press. The council action was unanimous.
In Berryville a contract was signed with a Rogersville, MO, firm to upgrade that city’s plant including installation of a sludge press and implementation of a new process to reduce the phosphorus produced.
The $3 million project is expected to be completed in 365 working days.
