Blast From the Past

— The following items appeared in the Gravette News Herald July 28 1960:

A photo on the front page showed “Highway Department workmen moving the last trace of Federal Highway 71 markers from Gravette and replacing them with State Highway 72 signs east and west.” Highway 59 now extends from Gravette north to Missouri.

Frank Brown, who developed Ozark Estates designed a new “Read and Study Table” which fits over a patient’s bed The tables are now in use in at the VA hospital in Fayetteville and the Sister Kenny Foundation for polio patients in Chicago.

Baseball news by “Pop” Allum reported Gravette Little Leaguers won their 16th game with D. Harris pitching a 2-hitter againstMaysville. Loux pitched a no-hitter as Maysville Babe Ruths beat Gravette.

Pruner led Little Leaguers in batting with a .525 average followed by Bo Roberts .428 and Mitchael .390.

Bell led Babe Ruth players with .500, followed by N.

Roberts with .371.

From Little Bits O’ Nothin’: “The chigger situation (scratch) isn’t nearly as bad (scratch, scratch) as last year, we are (scratch, scratch, scratch) happy to report”.

Mr. and Mrs. Nick Hendren and Mr. and Mrs.

Julian Hendren and Mike vacationed in Alabama/ Florida. They saw Jimm Hendren smash a home run for the Dothan Cardinal baseball team.
