— The Gravette Fire Department was planning a hamburger fry to raise funds for a new alarm siren. Admission for the purchaser of a giant hamburger with all the trimmings, potato chips and drink was 50 cents. The proposed alarm would cost $1,000.

A. L. “Pop” Allum wrote: Gravette opened the baseball season with Gentry by taking both ends of a double header. Pee Wees won 18-0 with Pruner and Fair going the no-hit four innings and the game was called The Babe Ruth game was also stopped at the end of four with the score 9-1. Bell was the winning pitcher.

Mrs. Ruth Studyvin walked off with top honors in the cooking contest at Decatur Barbeque with her “oven fried chicken”.

Broadway Street was now the new route for Highway 71 through Gravette. It formerly went east on Main Street to the park, then south one block, then east to Bentonville.

The summer program schedule was announced for boys and girls baseball and softball. Swimming would be at Bella Vista.

The U. S. House of Representatives appropriated $2,800,000 for construction work on Beaver Dam, according to a telegram from Congressman Jim Trimble.

Strawberry picking was in full swing. Elmer Fry was the first to sell a crate on the market and received 30 cents per quart.
