Maysville E. H. Members Enjoy Meeting In May

Wednesday, June 2, 2010

Mary Stewart was hostess for the Maysville E. H. Club meeting May 27. A bountiful meal was enjoyed by 12 members.

Nikki Crawley called the business meeting to order at 1 p.m. We sang “Over The Rainbow”, led by Melinda Crawley, and pledged allegiance to the U. S. flag.

Jewel Lukens gave two readings entitled “It Couldn’t Be Done But He Did It” and “A Lot of Truth in This One”. It pointed out several bad influences from watching TV and how it gradually becomes O.K. with too many people.

These helpful hints were given: Greasy spots can be removed from clothing by sponging with this mixture - 1 tsp. of salt to 4 tsps. of alcohol.

This mixture is recommended by a doctor for sore throat or mouthwash: 1 tsp. soda, 1 tsp. salt and 1 tsp. vinegar in 1/2 cup warm water.

To refresh a stale loaf ofbread, either homemade or purchased, remove any wrapper and rewrap with a damp cloth. Then heat it in a warm oven until the cloth is almost dry.

Melinda gave the lesson on growing your own herbs. She showed about two dozen samples of herbs with information about the uses, type of soil needed and how each is used in foods. Spices and herbs are very expensive now and you can easily grow a great many of your own at a great saving.

We discussed how we might help with the community project to get some playground equipment. We voted to continue thinking and planning.

Melinda drew the quarter package furnished by Bert Ballmann.

Our next meeting will be June 24 at the community center with Orpha Wardlaw presenting the lesson. Jewel Lukens will be the hostess and show a cultural art.
