School Building Projects Progressing On Target

— With the end of school fast approaching and planning underway for next school year, students, faculty and staff look forward to the opening of new facilities when they return, said Dr. Andrea Kelly, Superintendent of Schools.

The new music facility, when completed, will consist of 8,789 square feet of space to house the middle school band and choir programs. State of the art equipment and new musical instruments will also be included.

The new field house alleviates a space issue, adding 14,279 square feet to accommodate a workoutfacility, dressing rooms, concession, indoor and outdoor restrooms and offices for the football, baseball, softball and track programs.

In April, 2009, the district voters approved by an overwhelming 85%, an initiative to restructure existing bonds and borrow additional funds to pay for the new facilities without a millage increase.

As evidenced in the accompanying photos, construction of the buildings is on target for the district to take possession in late June to mid July.

“The academic success of most students who participate in an activityor area of interest in tandem with their academic studies are more likely to complete high school and pursue some form of postsecondary education or training. With this premise, the Board of Education of Gravette Public Schools continues to adapt programs and facilities to accommodate and encourage effective instruction, student engagement and academic success,” Dr. Kelly said.

An open house event for both buildings is set for Saturday, August 14, from 2 to 4 in conjunction with the annual Gravette Days celebration, Kelly announced.
