GENTRY — Free summer meals at the school
Gentry Public Schools will be serving free breakfast and lunch
to children, ages 18 and under, through July 30. Children do not
have to be Gentry students to participate in the meal program.
They can be from other districts or visiting relatives from out of
the area. Adults may eat with the children for $3 per meal. Meals
will be served in the Intermediate School Cafeteria, located at
302 West Second Street in Gentry. Breakfast will be served from
7:30 a.m. until 9 a.m., Monday through Friday. Lunch will be
served from noon until 1 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more

Library book sale
A new and used book sale will be held at the Gentry Public Li
brary from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 10 and 11 in the Community
Room. All proceeds from the sale will be used for the Library.
School Choice applications The Gentry Public School District will receive Public School
Choice applications until June 30. An information sheet and an
application may be downloaded at www.gentrypioneers.com or
picked up in person at the superintendent’s office during office hours.
Booked for Lunch
The Booked for Lunch speaker for June 14 is Peter Main of AEP
Southwestern Electric Power Company. He will speak on energy
saving tips for both homes and businesses. The program begins
at noon in the Gentry Public Library. Community members are
invited to bring a sack lunch. Drinks and dessert are provided
by the library.
Grief support group
A grief support group meets in the fellowship hall at the Victory
Missionary Baptist Church, 1120 East Main Street in Gentry, at 7
p.m. on the first and third Thursdays of each month. The group
is facilitated by Pastor Larry Hendren, who was trained in grief
counseling through the clinical pastoral education program at
Northwest Medical Center in Springdale.
Driver safety program
A driver safety program sponsored by AARP, will begin from
8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, June 17, at the Total Life Com
munity Center, south of Gentry on Arkansas Highway 59. The
classes are designed to assist those over 55 in becoming better
drivers by providing useful safety tips to compensate for age-related changes. A $14 fee to cover the cost of materials is required.
AARP members who provide their membership number qualify
for a $2 discount. Completion of the course may qualify drivers
for an auto insurance discount. For more information, call Dick

NWA Riding Club play days set
The NWA Riding Club continues to meet at 6 p.m. every other
Saturday night until Nov. 1, at the enclosed arena at the Luca-Don
Equestrian Center, 23236 Arkansas Highway 12, west of Gentry.
Ribbons are awarded nightly, with an awards banquet at the end
of the season. There are five age classes, with events including
poles, barrels, flags, speed and mutton busting. Memberships
are $30 per year for a family, but there is no charge for nightly
events. The NWA Riding Club is a non-profit, non-alcoholic and
drug-free environment for families. For more information, call

Gentry City Council
The Gentry City Council holds regular meetings in the city court
room at 6:30 p.m., the first Monday of each month. The Gentry
Planning and Zoning Commission meets in city hall at 7 p.m. on
the third Thursday of each month.
Gentry School Board
The Gentry School Board holds regular meetings at 7 p.m. on the
third Monday of each month in the school district board room.
Springtown Council The Springtown Council meets at 6 p.m., on the second Tuesday
of each month, in the new community building.
Town of Highfill
Highfill’s next council meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, July
13, at the Highfill Community Building. The planning commission
meeting is at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 29.
Gentry Lions Club The Gentry Lions Club meets from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. on the
second and fourth Thursdays of each month. The club is now
meeting in the Gentry Public Library’s community room. Visitors
are always welcome.
VFW Meetings
The Gentry/Decatur VFW Post meets on the first Tuesday of
each month - at 7:30 p.m. during the warmer months. New mem
bers and guests are welcome. The facility is 3 miles east of Decatur
on Arkansas Highway 102, right on Tilly’s Hill Road, and the first
building on the right.
Gentry Senior Activity Center
Gentry Senior Activity Center, at 121 East Main Street (just east
of the Gentry Public Library) is open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Mon
day through Friday. Meals and rides to the center and activities
are available Monday through Friday by calling Jackie Bader, the
center’s manager, at 736-0378. Van routes are Monday, Wednesday
and Thursday - Gentry, Highfill and Springtown; and Tuesday
and Friday - Gentry and Decatur.
