Gravette Letter To The Editor-

Wednesday, June 9, 2010

— Dear Editor,

The City of Gravette is facing a monumental problem with the discharge from the Gravette Waste Water Disposal Plant. Because of more stringent regulations from the EPA and the lawsuits filed by the State of Oklahoma, Gravette is facing a 6 to 8 million dollar project to get our phosphorus, nitrogen and ammonia levels to the new regulations. This is required because Gravette discharges into a losing stream.

My proposal is that Gravette build a wetlands/ lake behind the wastewater treatment plant. The lake will be lined so that no effluent will seep into the ground water. The City of Gentry is discharging into Swepco Lake and therefore does not have to meet the new federal and state regulations. Once the lake is in place, fish can be introduced, providing fishing to the community. This could be a new recreational facility for the city and save the city millions at the same time.

Voice your support for this project with letters and phone calls to City Hall. We have until October 1, 2010, to get a project underway to avoid being fined. Let’s build Lake Gravette!

Dear Editor, The City of Gravette and Parks Department would like to thank all the people who are participating in the third year of the Gravette Farmers’ Market. Our first Saturday was very successful and we thank Pudgy Wells for installingthe advertising banners.

Also, we appreciated our steadfast musicians, Jeff Davis, Gary and Linda Lefevere and Bill Mattler, whose wonderful folk music has entertained shoppers and farmers each week.
