Mt. Pleasant News

Turnout was very low for “Decoration Day” at Mt. Pleasant on Sunday the 23rd. I can remember as a child and young adult the crowds of folks out at the church and cemetery. I guess it doesn’t mean much anymore to pay respects to those who have gone on one day a year. It’s quite sad really.

I received a nice note from James and Shirley Matlock the other day. They had just returned from Franklin Co., Illinois. He was doing some genealogy research on his father’s family and stumbled across some interesting information on his mother’s ancestors. James’ mother and my mother, Louise Edgmon, are descendants of the Rotramel familythat was killed south of Mt. Pleasant during or after the Civil War. James found out that his mother’s ancestors lived in the same area as his father’s had. As he said, it’s a small world. During his research he locatedsome information about H. L. Rotramel from Pontiac, MI. I haven’t yet contacted Mr. Rotramel but hope to sometime soon. It’s interesting to see what you can find out about relatives. When we thought we were all genteel Southerners we find out there is some Yankee blood there! Thanks, James and Shirley.

Sunday the 30th of May we held our Fifth Sunday Singing. We were few in number but what beautiful music we had.

Beverly Nelson, sister of Phyllis, Wilma, Linda, Bill and others, spent Sunday afternoon at Phyllis Burnett’s, then went to church with us.

Ethan McVay spent the night with me on Saturday, then went to church with us. After church I got to spend a little while with my new granddaughter, Ethan’s sister.

Vern and Gloria Laughlin’s grandson, Alec Laughlin, and his mother, Shelley, were baptized last Sunday at Noel, MO.

Have a blessed week.
