City code requires property owners to mow and clean city easements and alleys

— City police and code enforcement officials are reminding property owners of their responsibility under the law to keep their lawns and the adjoining streets, alleys and drainage ditches mowed and clear of debris.

In a release sent out last week from the Gentry Police Department’sCode Enforcement Division, owners of lots and premises were reminded that city code makes them responsible to keep grass and weeds cut to 6 inches or less on their property and also on city easements, drainage ditches, streets and alleys adjacent to their property.

According to the release, property owners are also responsible to pick up trash and cut weeds on city streets and alleysadjoining their property out to the middle of the street or alley.

Failure to keep grass cut and debris and trash picked up can result in the property owner receiving a notice to appear in court and being fined by the court.

The release also reminds residents of a city parking ordinance limiting parking on Main Street between Collins and Otis Streets to a maximum of two hours. The ordinance is in effect at all times and not just during business hours.

Riding a bicycle, skateboard, roller skates or roller blades on the Main Street sidewalk between Arkansas Highway 12 and Arkansas Highway 59 is also prohibited, according to the release.

Full city ordinances are available for viewing at city hall, the release states.
