Residents urged to lock cars after weekend break-ins

Wednesday, June 9, 2010

— Police chief Terry Luker would like to remind Decatur residents to lock their cars, after a rash of break-ins over the weekend.

Luker said the Decatur Police Department received three reports on Sunday morning of items being stolen from inside cars at the Hidden Springs Apartments. Luker said he suspects there may have been more break-ins.

The thieves took or attempted to take stereos, and rummaged through the cars stealing miscellaneous items, Luker said. Other than the stereos, none of the items stolen were of significant value. None of the cars were locked.

“We encourage everyone to lock their cars and roll up their windows,” said officer Larry Feidorowicz, who is working the case.

Luker asked anyone who has items taken from their cars to contact the police department at 752-3911.
