Sulphur Makes Plans For Big Celebration

— Plans are in progress for the annual Independence Day Celebration in Sulphur Springs which will be held in the Sulphur Springs park Saturday, July 3.

According to the planning committee events already being planned include a chicken barbecue, beauty contests, horseshoes, volleyball, a river rat race and a greased pig contest.

The Friendly Neighbors Club and other groups will hold a cake walk and the Fire Department will sponsor a “dunk tank” as well as a “car bash”. Times of these events will be announced.

Several give-away raffles are being planned to help with expenses of the day and for a big fireworks display that evening after dark. The day will end with an old-fashioned street dance on Spring Street, just west of the park.

There will also be an after-dark party for teens in the park with Century Sounds Karaoke and other events are being finalized.

“Everyone in the area is invited to bring lawn chairs and join us for a full day of fun and celebrating,” said Betty Watson, speaking for the committee.
