What do trains, steamboats and murder have in common? You’ll have to read Journey to Die For by Radine Trees Nehring to find out! Master mystery writer Nehring has written another suspenseful page-turner. Our friends Henry and Carrie King have stumbled upon an unsavory situation that requires an explanation and their expertise in divining the villain responsible. (By the way, if you are not familiar with these characters, you MUST get to know them!)

As the title indicates, readers get to tag along as these two senior investigators travel from Springdaleto Van Buren on the Arkansas Missouri Railroad. Like the other books in her To Die For series, Ms. Nehring includes just enough regional history to teach you something you probably didn’t know. Doing so makes readers feel a little more familiar with Arkansas - its beauty, its traditions and its history. We learn a bit about Van Buren, the Arkansas River and steamboating. We also tour the Museum of Transportation in Kansas City looking for clues. . . and trying to avoid being another victim!

Readers also witness inner personal struggles. Our main characters seem like real people with realpasts and the real problems that can be attached to them. There are no easy solutions when stressful situations bring about emotional responses at unexpected moments. In those instances, we see Henry and Carrie as a couple wanting to help each other and trying to figure out how.

It is their desire to help others that gets them involved in this mystery to begin with. As we follow them from clue to clue, we witness human cunning that is startling and human cruelty that is frightening. But don’t be afraid to pick up this novel. The journey readers take is truly one to die for!
