— Will Gravette have a fireworks display this year to celebrate Independence Day?

That was the question facing Mike von Ree, who has championed the project annually for many years. Monday of this week Mike had his answer.

“Yes, there will be a fireworks show in Gravette the evening of Monday, July 5, at Pop Allum Park starting about 9 p.m.”

Other area towns had previously scheduled their celebrations but the halfhour long aerial display which attracts hundreds of people will be enjoyed a day after the Fourth.

In case of rain, the show will go on the following evening, Tuesday, July 6, von Ree said.

Gravette’s fireworks show has been a tradition since 1993, the year the city celebrated its 100th birthday. That was the first year a display was held in Gravette.

A crew from J & M Display, a firm located in Yarmouth, IA, will supply the fireworks and conduct the show, von Ree said. He added that donations to fund the event are still needed and will be welcomed. Call him, 787-7138, to offer your support.
