Ladies Assemble Emergency Kits

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

— More than 200 emergency kits were assembled recently and will be provided persons who use the services of emergency shelters in the area.

Bert Ballmann explained: “Everything needed for a shower is in each kit, a washcloth, soap, toothbrush and paste, shampoo and a comb. These were items that were donated by businesses and individuals John Thorne, dentist; Kent Leonard, dentist; pharmacist Ron Teasley and the Ozarks Community Hospital. Washcloths were donated by many people and plastic bags by Stephanie Thomas and Care and Share, where many items were donated.

The ladies at Maysville Fun Day assembled the washcloths and soap in small plastic bags and the final assembly was done by 4-H Club member Kate Stidham, Wendy Stidham, a former 4-Her and Diane Graham, 4-H leader.

“We still have enough of some of the items to assemble about 200 more kits,” Ballmann said.

“Items we need include washcloths, combs and toothpaste as well as sandwich, quart and larger plastic bags. I hope we can assemble more kits soon,” she added. Donated items can be left at Care and Share.

“We are recycling many items, clothing, electronics, paper and shoes and some items are donated to Habitat for Humanity.

Gravette can be very proud of their local thrift shop,” Ballmann said.

Volunteers, individuals and church groups are always welcome to help and donations for all are needed and welcomed for this special project, she added.
