Heat relief at library

The Gentry Public Library will be open during the Freedom Festival on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. for heat relief - restrooms and the water fountain - no other library services will be available.

Summer reading at library

This week’s topic is rocks. Dean Schafer, a gemologist from Gentry, will come and talk about the wide variety of rocks and gems which can be found in the region. The summer reading program runs from June 15 through Aug. 5, with events from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays for children 5-9; from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursdays for children 10-12, and from 4-5 p.m. on Thursdays for all ages. GHS five-year reunion

The Gentry High School Class of 2005 will be having its five-year reunion on Saturday, July 10th, and Sunday, July 11th. For more information, e-mail Megan Rowe-Denman and Lori Garside-Rooney at [email protected].

Free summer meals at the school

Gentry Public Schools is serving free breakfast and lunch to children, ages 18 and under, through July 30. Children do not have to be Gentry students to participate in the meal program. Adults may eat with the children for $3 per meal. Meals are served in the Intermediate School Cafeteria, located at 302 West Second Street in Gentry. Breakfast is served from 7:30 a.m. until 9 a.m., Monday through Friday. Lunch, from from noon until 1 p.m., Monday through Friday. Class of ‘73 info needed

Addresses and contact information are needed for the Gentry High School Class of 1973 to make a contact list for the September all-school reunion. Anyone with addresses and contact information for 1973 graduates is asked to e-mail Marla Feemster England at [email protected].

School Choice applications

The Gentry Public School District will receive Public School Choice applications until June 30. An information sheet and an application may be downloaded at www.gentrypioneers.com or picked up in person at the superintendent’s office during office hours.

Gentry City Council

The Gentry City Council holds regular meetings in the city court room at 6:30 p.m., the first Monday of each month. The Gentry Planning and Zoning Commission meets in city hall at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month.

Gentry School Board

The Gentry School Board holds regular meetings at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month in the school district board room.

Springtown Council

The Springtown Council meets at 6 p.m., on the second Tuesday of each month, in the new community building.

Town of Highfill

Highfill’s next council meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 13, at the Highfill Community Building. An open house is also planned following the July council meeting. The planning commission meeting is at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 27.

VFW Meetings

The Gentry/Decatur VFW Post meets on the first Tuesday of each month - at 7:30 p.m. during the warmer months. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is 3 miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102, right on Tilly’s Hill Road, and the first building on the right.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry on Falling Springs Road.
