Gravette, Sulphur Springs Activities Scheduled For Independence Day

— Sulphur Springs is gearing up for its annual Independence Day Celebration which will be held Saturday, July 3, in the big shady park in that city.

And in Gravette, to avoid Fourth of July fireworks activities in Sulphur Springs and other towns which are planning displays Saturday, the annual Gravette fireworks “Extravaganza” will be held the eveningof Monday, July 5, at Pop Allum Park.

In Sulphur Springs all types of activities are planned during the daylong event including a chicken barbecue, beauty contests, horseshoes, volleyball, a river rat race and a greased pig contest. There will be refreshment booths, a car bash, a cake walk and a dunk tank along with several raffles.

The day will start early and end with a street dance on Spring Street and the big fireworks display at dusk in the park.

Gravette Fireworks

Mike von Ree, who has chaired the annual fireworks project in Gravette since 1994, said , “The show will go on at dusk, about 9 p.m.,” when an Iowa firm, which supplies the pyrotechnics, will setoff the aerial displays.

There is plenty of parking available and it is expected that many will arrive early to enjoy visiting, and possibly tailgate parties. There is no admission, since the program is sponsored by local/area businesses, individuals and organizations.

In case of rain the show will be held the following evening.
