Have a safe and happy Fourth of July. Personally I’ll be glad when the fireworks are all shot. They are as upsetting to 49er as a thunderstorm.

Those having lunch with Ward and Paula Carrier on Sunday were Lofty, Dale-Lynn, Lamarise, Brian, Mike and Gabe Carrier, Tom and Amy Brooks, Trevor Blevins and myself.

Former Hiwasse girl Mary Nell Davidson passed away this week. Her husband had passed away 14 hours earlier. They were both buried Friday in the National Cemetery in Fayetteville. The Davidsonslived here in the house on the corner by the Hiwasse Country Store. The father was the rural mail carrier out of Hiwasse for several years.

News is scarce this week. Everyone I called either didn’t answer or said, “All I’ve done is gone to work and came home.”

Several former residents of the area receive the paper and use it to “keep up with old friends.” Please let me know your news and keep them up to date on what’s going on.

June 30, 1906, the U. S. Pure Food and Drug Act and the Meat Inspection Act were passed.
