JGT Club Holds June Meeting At Old Town

— The monthly meeting of the Jolly Good Times Club was held Wednesday, June 23, in Old Town Park with five members and one guest, Charlie Griffin, present. Member Eda Montag and her husband Harlan joined the group for lunch.

President Jeanne Hubbard opened the meeting with the pledge of allegiance to the flag and led the group in singing “Lazy River”. Her devotions focused on “the value of simple pleasures”.

Roll call was answered by five members: Chia, Mary, Susan - “Add Joy to Your Daily Life”, Betty - baking soda hints and Jeanne - “Bet You Didn’t Know”.

Secretary Betty Howard read the minutes of the May meeting and they were approved as read. Mary Griffin gave the treasurer’s report.

There was no old business. Possible projects were discussed in new business. Members will consider supplying backpacks and needed school supplies when school begins in the fall. Donations will also be made for Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets. Chia Greer suggested that each one present work on recruiting new members.

Susan Holland gave the program, reading “Grammer and Two-Tom”, a story by former LSU professor John Wright, and “Giving God Pleasure”, a chapter in Ruth Bell Graham’s book Legacy of a Pack Rat. She gave each member a container of bath beads.

The meeting closed with the singing of the doxology. Members enjoyed a picnic lunch of egg salad sandwiches, roast chicken, salads, chips and dips and punch.
