New Student Enrollment Date

Wednesday, June 30, 2010

— New student enrollment at Glenn Duffy Elementary will be on Tuesday, July 13, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. As goodbyes are said to children moving on to third grade, teachers are eager to meet new students who are new to the area and those who may be eligible for kindergarten through second grade.

According to Principal Zane Vanderpool, “It is important that we can determine in advance the number of students we can expect to see on the first day of school. If we should have to move or add another teacher after school begins, many students will be shifted from their original class. This is something we’d all like to avoid if possible.”

Children who live in the Gravette School District and will reach the age of five on or before August 15 may be registered for kindergarten at the Glenn Duffy Elementary. Also a child who will be 5 no later than September 15 AND who attended a state-approved institution (state quality accredited) during 2008/2009 as a three year old AND 2009/2010 as a four year old for at least100 days may enroll in kindergarten. Additionally, the 2011/2012 school year age cut off will move to August 1.

Glenn Duffy Elementary offers a rich academic experience to our students. The classroom experience will include Phonics, Guided Reading, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, as well as socialization skills and learning centers. In addition to the core academic curriculum, the students are also included in art, music, library, physical education, computer lab, character education and enrichment through the Gifted and Talented program. Glenn Duffy strives to offer each student the best possible background for academic and social success as they begin their education foundations.

Any new students in the Gravette School District who are eligible for kindergarten through second grade should enroll for school on July 13, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Enrollment packets may be printed and completed in advance, then mailed to school. The school website is http://portal.lions.k12. ar.us/gde.
