Charlotte’s Corner - Anxious for spring but not lawn mowing just yet

Wednesday, March 3, 2010

— Truly we have had enough winter since we could call it a winter. It’s time for spring. It has been cold and snowy, and my desire for snow has probably been satisfied.

I do believe that in July I will be thinking, “Hey, that snow I wanted in December would be nice to have now! Why can’t we have colder weather in summer, and then have warmer weather in February?” Talk about contrary seasons!

My buddy, Leonard Truitt was at the post office this month and said, “I am so tired of this weather. I am ready to get the lawn mower out, and start mowing my lawn.”

I said, “Hey, wait a minute, Leonard, you are getting a little too anxious here.”

I like mowing lawns, but when you have to mow the post office lawns weekly, it does get a little tiring. So, I am still ready to keep a little colder weather for a while.

Our February was made when the kids came home for a couple weekends. Texas got some of that wonderful snow that my children were so desiring to see. College was canceled and they were home for a long weekend where we had no snow. They missed out on their snow, but perhaps got some this week.

Then, last weekend, my son and daughter went to stay the weekend with a cousin in Oklahoma City. My son preached at their church. He enjoyed the weekend away. Plus, it was the first time they went to visit Robin as adults, on their own, without parents.

My daughter, Haley turned 17 this last month and now can officially buy issues of Seventeen Magazine.

She said, “Mom, now that I am 17, can I buy the Seventeen Magazine?”

How sweet! How innocent! I thought it was quite nicethat she has waited this long to read that rubbish. There are a few things that come with age, and I guess reading about other teens is OK. But in my opinion, some of the things they tell 17-year-olds should not be told to them at this age.

Happy Birthday to my nephew Simon Taylor. He is 12 days older than Haley and we got to have a little party with him. I think we should take them to Chuckie Cheese. More teens like that place than you would believe.

We were thrilled for Lorrie Amos to come back to work at the Gravette post office. She had an airplane hanger door fall on her leg in October, so she has been off work all this time - approximately five months. We certainly were glad to see her, and the customers are doubly glad to see her.

Speaking of post offices, over the next two weeks all the post offices are counting their mail, which is how they know how much mail goes through each office. Please take this time to mail your letters from your home address, so your local carrier gets credit for his/her hard work. They willappreciate this more than cookies at Christmas.

This last week, McKee Foods celebrated perfect attendance for us who were so blessed to obtain it. After five years of working there, I finally was able to get perfect attendance. It was great - a personal fulfillment - knowing that I was able to do that. My husband also had perfect attendance, as well as Mao Xiong and Monico Macias from my line. We were thrilled with our accomplishment.

Ozark Academy celebrated their alumni last weekend. My children came home for the weekend, and SWAT, the Southwestern Acrobatic Team, performed for the Gentry Intermediate school. It was fun to watch. They are awesome gymnasts. I hope Randy, the editor, was able to get a picture of my son, so I can have some bragging rights.

I noticed some flowers are starting to appear in nearbyyards, so have no fear, spring is near. Until next month and springtime temperatures, stay warm.
