Soccer team improving

— The Gentry girls’ soccer team lost a close game to Huntsville on a very cold Feb. 23 by a score of 2-1. But though the team came up short on the scoreboard, they played a strong game and continue to show improvement.

“I thought we improved and played well,” said Gentry coach Dan Childress. “Yochabel Perales, a senior forward, scored early in the match for us. We controlled the match and had many more shots than they had. However, give Huntsvillecredit. They found a way to win in the end. But I was very pleased with our play and effort.”

On Friday, the girls defeated Decatur by a score of 10-0.

“Again, I thought we continued to improve and played well throughout,” Childress said.

Junior forward Kendra Boyd was playing in her first match after finishing up basketball playoffs and scored the first four goals of the match.

“We not only won big but improved in all phases of the game in the process,” Childress said.
