Newspaper office hours

Regular office hours at the Gentry news office of Northwest Arkansas Newspapers LLC are limited to make it possible for staff to be out covering news and events. Regular hours will be from 9-11 a.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Staff members will be in and out of the office at other times, but calling ahead to 736-2822 or 233-0081 is recommended. Subscription and advertising assistance is also available by calling the Siloam Springs office at 524-5144.

Books Sandwiched In

Terrye Robins will speak and sign books at the first in a series of lunch meetings at the Gentry Public Library on Monday, March 15. Robins is the author of Christian-fiction novels “Trouble in Paradise,” “Revenge in Paradise,” and the newly-released “Justice in Paradise.” She’ll have signed copies of her three books available for purchase at the noon event. Those attending will need to bring a lunch. The library will provide drinks and dessert. For more information on the event, call the library at 736-2054.

Highfill Fire Department Chili Supper

The Highfill Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual all-you-can-eat chili supper from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, March 13, at the Highfill Community Building. A pie auction will be held at 6 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door and are available in advance from firefighters. Children under 5 eat free. Proceeds raised will be used to support the Highfill Fire Department Association.

Talbot Library and Museum Book Fair

Talbot Library and Museum, 500 So.Colcord Ave, Colcord, Okla., will be hosting a book fair with surplus books for sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday and Saturday, March 12 and 13. Hundreds of old and new books - genealogy, local history, Cherokee research, county and family histories from many states will be offered. Some books are one- copy-only, rare and collectible. The 37th Annual Lions Club Pancake Supper will be held at the Gentry High School Cafeteria from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 25. Tickets - $5 for adults and $3 for children under 6 - are available from any Lions Club member and at the Courier-Journal office.

Gentry Easter Egg Hunt

The annual Gentry Chamber of Commerce Easter egg hunt will be held at 2 p.m., April 3, in the Gentry City Park. Many prizes, including bicycles, will be given away. There will be about 2,000 eggs to be found this year.

Highfill Easter Egg Hunt

Highfill will hold an Easter egg hunt at the Highfill City Park at 1 p.m., April 3. For more information, call Jeanetta Evans at 736-5711.

Bean Bag Challenge

The Gentry Senior Center is issuing a challenge to any groups or organizations that would like to enter the SAC bean bag baseball tournament from 6 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, at the Carl Gym. The Gentry Fire Department and the Gentry Police Department have accepted the challenge. Eight teams are needed. Spectators too may come out and root for their favorite team. The cost will be $3 per adult and $2 per student. Proceeds raised will be used for the senior meal program. For more information or to compete in the tournament, call Jackie Bader at 736-0378.

Gentry City Council

The Gentry City Council holds regular meetings in the city court room at 6:30 p.m., the first Monday of each month. The Gentry Planning and Zoning Commission meets in city hall at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month.

Gentry School Board

The Gentry School Board holds regular meetings at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month in the school district board room.
