Pioneers finish opening week of baseball 2 and 2

— The Pioneers won their opener on March 1 against Greenland by a score of 10-7. On March 2, they had the lead against West Fork and were ahead 8-7 going into the bottom of the 7th, but lost 9-8. They were shut out 10-0 on Thursday against Elkins but fared better against Dover.

Elkins jumped ahead early on its home diamond, scoring five runs in the first inning and picking up another three in the fourth and two in the fifth to end the game.

The Pioneers were held to three hits in the game, with Tanner Coy, Kolby Rankin and Jerred Rankin each getting on board. Jerred Rankin and Josh Sewell pitched in the game, with Rankin taking the loss.

The Pioneers came back for a win against Dover on Saturday, picking up four runs in the seventh to gain the 7-5 victory.

John Sewell and Cody Stewart pitched in the game.

Sewell was credited with a win and Stewart with a game save.

The team (2-2) travels to Lincoln on Thursday and Huntsville on Friday.
