Economy Forces Westfield Home Center To Close

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

— Westfield Home Center closed its doors last Friday, a victim of the building bust and the monetary problems that have affected businesses nationwide.

Mike Sumrall and his wife Judy opened Westfield Hardware on Highway 72 west in April, 2003. The business flourished during the ensuing years until the financial crises hit some three years ago in the area.

The couple have been deeply involved in community activities and home construction for many years, having completed almost 200 homes in the area including being a primary investor in the development of Westfield subdivision.

Sumrall said it is with regret the couple had to take this action. He expressed thanks for the support of the community and area since they opened the doors of their new building just seven years ago.

He noted the deep drop in construction and said related services Westfield has provided will continue to be missed as will the sales tax revenue the city is and will continue to lose.

Sumrall Homes will continue to operate, Sumrall added.
