Lady Pioneers 2 for 4 in Siloam tournament

— The girls softball team got off to a rough start against Har ber in their first game of the Siloam Springs tournament on Friday.

Despite a strong defense, including a nice catch by shortstop Whitney Corter in the fourth inning, Har ber opened up in the fifth to score three runs. Har ber pitching dominated to hold Gentry scoreless in a 3-0 ball game.

The Lady Pioneers fared better in the second game Saturday morning after a rain delay. Taking on Fort Smith’s Southside, the ladies opened up early with a single by Marly Pierce, scoring off a fielder’s choice hit by Courtney Folker. In the third inning, JosieGraves-Long drove one to the fence for a triple, scoring Whitney Corter and Eryan Beck.

Southside’s only score came in the third inning when McCain’s double brought in Driscoll.

The game resulted in a 3-1 victory for Gentry.

Gentry 5 Gravette 1

Then, the Lady Pioneers took on conference rival Gravette and picked up a nice 5-1 win.

Eryan Beck showed the heart and skill the team’s come to expect from her and struck out five of the first seven batters she faced.

Great pitching, combined with good defensive plays, including a sweet catch by Courtney Folker in left field, held the Lady Lions to one run.

Lead-off batter Marly Pierce singled, to be driven in by Whitney Corter’s triple. Rindy Hudson followed with a single, scoring Corter, all in the first inning.

Cloie Sikes started off the second inning with a tremendous home run over the left field fence. Hogan reached first on a fielder’s choice, followed by a base on errors by Corter, and was later brought in on a single by Beck.

Gentry 0 Harrison 5

The Lady Pioneers went down in a 5-0 ball game against the strong team of Lady Goblins from Harrison. Several errors and a failure to connect with the ball led to the loss.

Cloie Sikes had the only hit for Gentry, with a single in the fifth. Although several girls got on base by error or fielder’s choice, none were able to score.
