— The annual citywide cleanup is planned for April 22 - which also happens to be Earth Day.

Roll Off Services, Inc., will be picking up bulky waste along with their regular trash pickup, including common householdappliances with the chloroflorocarbons removed, furniture, mattresses, large toys and Christmas trees.

Items that will not be accepted include paint or paint cans, tires, batteries, automotive fluids, engine parts, pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, fluorescent light bulbs, hazardous waste, liquid waste, televisions, computer monitors and freon.

Police chief Terry Luker said the citywide cleanup gives community members a good opportunity to tidy up their property and stay in compliance with city ordinances.

City ordinances require residents to cut weeds and grass, remove rubbish and other unsanitary and unsightly itemson their property, including abandoned or junk motor vehicles, machinery, household furniture, appliances and building materials, as well as garbage and rubbish of any description.

Property owners are also required to eliminate stagnate pools of water that might become a breeding place for mosquitoes, flies and germs that could endanger the health of the community, the ordinance states.

Anyone violating the ordinance can be ticketed and fined between $5 and $25 a day for each day the condition continues to exist. For more information, contact city hall at 752-3912.
