A Blast From the Past. Stories in the News Herald, March 31, 1960:

◊Work was started this week to expand and modernize the Gravette telephone office. Clyde Sibley, manager of S.W. Bell - Arkansas said the improvement will cost $23,000 and enable the system to add more phones.

◊Gravette’s new Co-op service station announced it will hold its grand opening April 2. It is located at the intersection of Highways 59 and 71 (yes, 71 came through Gravette). A half-page ad in the News Herald announced a pound of “Mr. Pig” sausage or a quart of motor oil would be given to fill-ups duringthe event.

◊A blurry picture was accompanied with the following cutline, “Work progresses on the water filter plant.”

◊The State Health Department announced the supply of polio vaccine has been used up.

◊Cotton’s Conoco offered 6.70x15 nylon tires for $10.95. Gravette Department Store had Enchantress Nylons on sale for 59 cents a pair. The Ozark Theater was showing “Career” with Dean Martin and Shirley McLaine. Ginger Blue offered Sunday Smorgasbord: All You Can Eat, adults, $1.75; children under 12, $1.
