— Decatur High School’s junior-senior prom will be held in the Northside Elementary School cafeteria from 8 p.m. until midnight, on April 24.

The theme for this year’s prom is “A Midnight Sky.” The colors will be silver and black, according to teacher Amy Steele.

Students are expected to dress formally for the prom. Gentlemen are required to wear a tie with dress slacks, a collared shirt and a jacket. But they do not have to wear a tuxedo, Steele said.

Ladies are asked not to wear plunging necklines - in the front or the back of their dress - or wear dresses that expose their midriffs. A slit in the leg is fine as long as it is nohigher than the lady’s fingertips, according to Steele. If anyone is unsure if their dress is appropriate, they are asked to bring their dress to school for review, she said.

Juniors must pay their class dues to attend prom. Seniors may attend for free. Juniors and seniors who would like to bring a date who is not in the 11th or 12th grade at Decatur High School may purchasea ticket for $35. Tickets will be on sale until April 9.

Tenth grade students will be permitted to attend if they are escorted by a junior or senior Decatur High School student. No guests older than 20 will be allowed, and all guests will be asked to sign in.

Steele asks Parents who would like to attend or help chaperone to contact the Decatur High School Office at 752-3217.
