Booked for Lunch

Booked for Lunch at Gentry Public Library will present “Flower Power” at noon on Monday, May 10. The public is invited to bring a sack lunch and join in while Marsha and Frank Scherer, with Travel Masters, present a photo tour of beautiful flower photos taken on tours over the past eight years. Drinks and a dessert will be provided.

Cash for gold event

Gentry Odyssey of the Mind is holding a “cash for gold” fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, May 8, in the Gentry Primary School cafeteria. Area residents are invited to bring in their unwanted gold jewelry for appraisal and cash. Gentry OM will receive 20 percent of the total paid out for the day. Miss Gentry Pageants

The annual Miss Gentry and Little Miss and Mister Gentry pageants will be held during the Freedom Festival celebration in the park on Saturday, July 3rd. Michelle Finnell will be the director of the pageants. Finnell can be reached at 957-4594. Applications are now available on the Gentry School District Web page, at the Gentry city office, Arvest Bank, Gentry Bank, Liberty Bank or in the high school office. The deadline for entries is June 30th. Gentry girls who will be a senior next year are invited to compete for the Miss Gentry title. The winner will receive $200, as well as a crown and sash. She will also represent Gentry at the annual Decatur Barbecue and the Miss Benton County Fair. Little Miss and Mister Gentry must live in the Gentry school district and be between the ages of 3 and 5 on July 3rd. All Freedom Fest activities are sponsored by the Gentry Chamber of Commerce.

NWA Riding Club play days set

The NWA Riding Club continues to meet at 6 p.m. every other Saturday night until Nov. 1, at the enclosed arena at the Luca-Don Equestrian Center, 23236 Arkansas Highway 12, west of Gentry. Ribbons are awarded nightly, with an awards banquet at the end of the season. There are five age classes, with events including poles, barrels, flags, speed and mutton busting. Memberships are $30 per year for a family, but there is no charge for nightly events. The NWA Riding Club is a non-profit, non-alcoholic and drug-free environment for families. Miss Colcord Pageant

The Miss Colcord Pageant is set for May 29. The pageant is open to contestants from all surrounding areas. Pageant categories include kindergarten through grade 12. For more information, call 918-314-9613 or send an e-mail to colcordchamber @ yahoo.com.

Community Interest Survey

A Community Interest Survey will be conducted over the next two or three weekends by the Gentry Seventhday Adventist Church and Ozark Academy. Permission has been granted by the Police Department. The survey results may be published in this paper along with the potential benefits to be offered to the community.

Gentry City Council

The Gentry City Council holds regular meetings in the city court room at 6:30 p.m., the first Monday of each month. The Gentry Planning and Zoning Commission meets in city hall at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month.

Gentry School Board

The Gentry School Board holds regular meetings at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month in the school district board room.

Springtown Council

The Springtown Council meets at 6 p.m., on the second Tuesday of each month, in the new community building.

Town of Highfill

Highfill’s next council meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 11, at the Highfill Community Building.

Gentry Lions Club

The Gentry Lions Club meets from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. The club is now meeting in the Gentry Public Library’s community room. Visitors are always welcome.
