Health fair set for Saturday

— Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital will host its annual spring community health fair from 8-11 a.m., Saturday, May 8. The health fair will be in the parking lot across from the hospital under the large white tents.

This spring’s health fair will feature more than 40 vendors from Siloam Springs, other parts of Northwest Arkansas and northeast Oklahoma. Free health screenings will include blood pressure,blood sugar, body mass index, body fat measurement, pulse/oxygen, nutritional assessment, bone density, simple spirometry, vision and more. Vendors will offer educational materials, free snacks, giveaways and goodies for all ages.

The SSMH laboratory will offer screenings as follows. Both tests are performed by drawing blood:

◊Basic chemistry screening and lipid panel. The basic chemistry screening includes glucose, calcium, renal functions and electrolyte balance. The charge is $15. The lipid panel includes total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL and calculated LDL. The lipid panel is included as a courtesy at no extra charge. Any individual desiring this combination screening should fast at least 12 hours prior to testing.

◊Prostate cancer screening test (PSA) for men. This test will be available free of charge, but donations will be accepted for Siloam Springs Hospital Auxiliary. This is not a fasting test.

Registration forms for the SSMH lab screenings will be available at various locations in Siloam Springs or at the front desk at the hospital.
