Westark Scouts To Celebrate 100 Years

Westark Area Boy Scout Council will hold a 100th Anniversary special event at Camp Orr, a high adventure base camp located on the Buffalo River, north of Jasper, AR, on June 17. This is event is one of the activities being celebrated in the 17-county Boy Scout Council that will commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Scouting in the United States and the 90th Anniversary of Scouting in Westark Area Council.

Among the activities to be held in the afternoon will be a spectacular display of two Boy Scout hot air balloons that will be on hand for the first time ever in this Scouting council. An afternoon of special activities beginning at 1 p.m. will be held and concluded with a stage program that begins at 6 p.m.

Scouters and visitors to the camp will be able to observe Boy Scouts in various scout Merit Badge classes, take a tour of the camp, see a history of the council, watch outdoor Dutch oven cooking, participate in a Scout Trade-O-Ree, play games, visit the hot air balloons near the Buffalo River at the camp and visit and Order of the Arrow (Indian village) during the afternoon.

Dinner will be served at the dining hall at 4:30 p.m for visitors and Scouters, who are asked to call 479-495-2273 if they plan to attend the dinner.

Over 550 Boy Scouts, Scouting leaders and visitors are expected to attend. Camp Orr High Adventure Base is located within the Buffalo National Park, the only Boy Scout camp in the nation located within a national park.
