Area Women Foil Abduction Attempts

— Gravette Police Department issued a warning Monday afternoon for persons, especially women, to be cautious if they are out alone at night.

Two apparent attempted abductions occurred in Gravette recently. The first, the police said, occurred about 9 p.m. Sunday, May 2, when a woman reported to police a male attempted to abduct her but she was able to fight the suspect off.

The woman, who policesaid was in her mid-30s, was unable to provide a description of the lone suspect.

The second attempted abduction reported occurred about 11 p.m. Sunday, May 9, in the alley behind the Main Cafe building.

The victim, a 19-yearold female, reported that four men, two white, two dark-colored, in a small four-door car attempted to drag her into the vehicle. She said she fought them offwith a stick she picked up.

Sgt. David Smith, who informed the News Herald for Police Chief Trent Morrison, said investigations are ongoing and persons with any information should call the Police Department, 787-5911, or if an abduction attempt occurs call 911 immediately.

Smith said Officer Travis Grant is the investigating officer for the May 2 incident; Officer Brandon Handle, the May 9 incident.
