Memorial Day Flowers

Memorial Day Flowers placed at the Decatur City Cemetery will be allowed to remain 14 days after the holiday Flowers will then be removed and recycled unless they are attached directly to the grave stone.

Elementary School Awards

The Northside Elementary School’s year-end awards ceremony will be held on June 4. Students in first and second grades will be recognized at 8:30 a.m., and students in third, fourth and fifth grades will be recognized at 9:30 a.m Parents and family members are invited to attend.

Meet the Superintendent Night

The Decatur School District will introduce Dr. Larry Ben and say good-bye to LeRoy Ortman at a special event planned for 6 p.m. on June 3. The event will include dinner and will also serve as the June town hall meeting. Parents students and community members are encouraged to attend.

Kindergarten Graduation

Northside Elementary School’s kindergarten graduation ceremony will be held at 9 a.m., June 3, in the school cafeteria. A pre-kindergarten program will be held at 9:30 a.m.

Town Hall Meetings

The Decatur School District holds regular town hall meetings in place of school board meetings at 7 p.m., the third Monday of the month, in the high school cafeteria.

Graduation

The Decatur High School graduation ceremony will be held at 7:30 p.m., May 21, in the Lloyd Peterson Gymnasium.

Class of 2000 Reunion

Decatur High School Class of 2000 is planning a 10-year reunion this summer. The reunion committee would love for everyone who graduated from Decatur in 2000 to participate in the reunion but needs addresses or contact information for a large portion of the graduates. Creators Cafe, a creative writing group, meets from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of the month and from 11 a.m until 12:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month in the Iva Jane Peek Library. Activities include reading and writing poetry, discussions of famous poets and their work, challenges, slam and stand up, and contests and prizes. Parks and Recreation

Parks and Recreation Committee meetings will be held at 6 p.m., on the first Thursday of the month in the city council room. All members urged to attend along with anyone who is interested in joining the committee. For more information call 752-3912.

Food Pantry

The Decatur food pantry is open from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m on Thursday. The pantry offers free nonperishable food to Decatur residents. The pantry is located at the United Methodist Church in Decatur. Participants need to bring identification showing they have a 72722 ZIP code. For more information, contact the Methodist Church at 752-3551.

NWA Riding Club play days set

The NWA Riding Club holds play-day rodeo at 6 p.m. every other Saturday night until Nov. 1, at the enclosed arena at the Luca-Don Equestrian Center, 23236 Arkansas Highway 12, west of Gentry. Ribbons will be awarded nightly with an awards banquet at the end of the season. A point system will be in effect. There will be five age classes, with events including poles, barrels, flags, speed and mutton busting. Memberships are $30 per year for a family. There is no charge for nightly events.
