John Henry Carter

John Henry Carter, 73, of Colcord, Okla., died May 15, 2010, at Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital in Siloam Springs.

He was born on May 9, 1937, in Siloam Springs to James “Dude” Lewis Carter and Amie Martin Carter. He was a farmer and worked at Curran Feed Store in Gentry. He married Carol Kirby in 1968 and lived most of his life in Colcord.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Brett Carter of Kansas, Okla.; one grandson; three sisters, Barbara Ford of Southwest City, Mo., Delberta Daniel of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Georgena Jech of Gentry.

Graveside services were May 18 at Row Cemetery, Delaware County, Okla., with Larry Ellis officiating.

Burial followed.

Vickie Jean Laffoon Fagin

Vickie Jean Laffoon Fagin, 45, of Glenpool, Okla., died May 10, 2010, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Okla.

She was born Jan. 17, 1965, in Siloam Springs to Jack and Dottie Lowery Laffoon. She graduated from Westville High School in 1983 and continued her education at Connors State College where she received a bachelor’s degree in education. She married Kevin Fagin on March 18, 1989, in Tulsa. She substituted teaching for three years and most recently she worked as a para-special educator for Glenpool Public Schools.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Vurtie Bousman.

She is survived by herhusband of the home; two sons, Kyle and Bradley Fagin of Glenpool; her parents of Westville, Okla.; and three sisters, Jackie Smithson and husband Mark of Gentry; Raylene Vann and husband Gary of Bunch, Okla.; and Stacy Graham and husband David of Rosenberg, Texas.

Funeral services were May 13 at First Baptist Church in Glenpool, with Ron Baker officiating. Burial was at City of Bixby Cemetery in Bixby, Okla.

Memorial donations may be made to Glenpool Public Schools Special Olympics Chapter.

Kathleen Sue Fulton

Kathleen Sue Fulton, 74, of Bentonville, died May 11, 2010, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale.

She was born Nov. 28, 1935, in Cherokee City to Elton and Dovie Bailey Yates. She worked as a nurse at Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital in Siloam Springs. She was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Yates, and a son, Michael Oldham.

She is survived by a son, Thomas Oldham of Springdale; three grandchildren; a sister, Judy Rife of Centerton; and a brother, Joe Yates of Fayetteville.

No services are planned at this time.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Road, Springdale, AR 72762.

David Robert Nelson

David Robert Nelson, 59, of Gentry, died May 9, 2010, at his home.

He was born Nov. 27, 1950, in Winnebago, Minn., to Walter Acord and Margaret Digman. He married Sherry Carlton on July 13, 1996, in Siloam Springs. He was a custom meat processor, having owned Benton Co. Meat Processing in Siloam Springs. He liked to work, hunt raccoons and play golf.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of the home; a daughter, Sandi Carlton of Siloam Springs; two sons, Marty Nelson of Little Rock, and Dennis Nelson of Fargo, Okla.; four grandchildren; two brothers, Reiferd Acord of Harper, Kan., and John Acord of Siloam Springs; and a sister, Shirley Aue of Coffeeville, Kan.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., May 22, at Fellowship Bible Church in Siloam Springs.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in David’s name may be made to the H.O.P.E. Foundation, 5835 W. Sunset, Springdale, AR 72763.

Cremation arrangements are by Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Siloam Springs.

Jo Allene NeSmith

Jo Allene NeSmith, 79, formerly of Siloam Springs, died May 6, 2010, in Memphis, Tenn.

She was born Aug. 1, 1930, in Hartford, Kan., to Allen and Evelyn Lyons Barnes. She moved to Siloam Springs in 1982 from Tulsa and was a graduate of John Brown University. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Siloam Chapter 21, Auxiliary of DAV, VFW and American Legion. She was also a member of First Christian Church in Siloam Springs. She moved to Memphis in 1995, where she was a member of Lindenwood Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred NeSmith, in 1987.

She is survived by a daughter, Evelyn Keating of Memphis; three sons, Richard NeSmith of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Thomas NeSmith and wife Tina and Terry NeSmith of Memphis; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Bayer of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Paula Netherton of Tulsa, Okla.

Funeral services were May 12 at Wasson Funeral Home in Siloam Springs, with A.P. Vohs officiating. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Siloam Springs.

Elsie Mae Reading

Elsie Mae Reading, 76, of Siloam Springs, died May 15, 2010 at Regency Hospital in Springdale.

She was born Sept. 10, 1933, in Colcord, Okla., to Walter Marshall and Levie (Beck) Marshall. She married Darrell Reading on Nov. 26, 1977. She was retired from Simmons and enjoyed gardening.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one sister, Marty Coleman.

Survivors include one son, Bill Gammill of Weddington; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jiggs Marshall and wife Virginia of West Siloam Springs, Okla., Elmer Marshall of Colcord, Willie Marshall and wife Paula of Siloam Springs; five sisters, Judy Case and husband Gary of Gentry, Wynona Rogers of Bentonville, Marie Hurt of Colcord, Leona Shook and husband Mack of Siloam Springs, and Dorine January and husband Charles of Colcord.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs, with Tommy Duncan officiating. Burial will follow at Weddington Cemetery, Weddington.

Wilma Zona Romine

Wilma Zona Romine, 93, of Gentry, died May 11, 2010, at Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital in Siloam Springs.

She was born Sept. 2, 1916, in Colony, Okla., to William and Marie Penner Bergthold. She earned degrees from Tabor College at Hillsboro, Kan., John Brown University in Siloam Springs and the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. She had an extended teaching career in the elementary and the higher education field. She served in the Army Air Corp from 1942 to 1945 at Paine Field in Everett, Wash. She married Louis Romine on March 27, 1975, in Kansas City, Kan.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, ConniePatterson; one great-grandchild; her parents; brothers, Waldo, Leo, and Bill; and a sister Lodema.

She is survived by her husband of the home; two stepsons, Michael Romine of Kansas City, Kan., and Steven Romine of Camdenton, Mo.; nine grandchildren; three brothers, Ernest Bergthold and wife Phobe Ann of Lodi, Calif., LeRoy Bergthold and wife Catherine of Shawnee Mission, Kan., and Raymond Bergthold and wife Lucille of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Inez Couch of Gentry; and many great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were May 15 at Wasson Memorial Chapel in Siloam Springs with Isaac McBride and Bob Meyer officiating. Burial was at Coffelt Cemetery near Vaughn.

Gladys Evelyn Taylor

Gladys Evelyn Taylor, 78, of Gravette, died May 14, 2010, at her home.

She was born May 8, 1932, in Happy Hollow to George and Lula Rotramel. She was a homemaker and moved to northwest Arkansas from Oklahoma in 1967. She married Jack Taylor in Miami, Okla., in 1960.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sons, Bill Cordeiro and Clay Taylor; four brothers, Raymond Rotramel, Jack Rotramel, Frank Rotramel, and Paul “Fibber” Rotramel; and four sisters, Alma Doyle, Ada Roberts, Verla Donahou, and Faye Clark.

She is survived by two sons, Mike Cordeiro and wife Anita of Gravette, and James Taylor and wife Sheila of Westville, Okla.; a daughter, Jill Baldwin and husband Gerald of Eufaula, Okla.; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were May 17 at Wasson Memorial Chapel in Siloam Springs with Tim Estes officiating. Burial followed at Gentry Cemetery.

Arrangements were by Wasson Funeral Home in Siloam Springs.
