FCCLA Winners Will Attend Nationals After State Triumph

— Seven Gravette High School students will be traveling to Chicago in July to represent the FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) at its national competitions and conferences.

Nichole Mannion, their sponsor, said the students all placed first in state competition held several weeks ago in Little Rock.

The students include Jordan White, Whitney DeWitt and Brenna Sullivan whose project involved Reducing Our Carbon Footprint on the earth by reducing electricity consumption. They competed in the Junior Environmental Ambassadors Division.

Christina Lovell ranked first in the state in the Fashion Construction category with a dress she created.

Jacob Scott, Victor Vang and Megan Galvan competed in Gravette’s firstever Culinary Arts Competition and topped all state entries. “They did a superb job, which involved hours and hours of time to their project,” Mannion said. Their instructor is Sherry Stallings.

Also competing at state, after placing first or second at district, were Jordan Stidham, BreeAnna Damron and Glenn Overturfwhose project promoted Recycling to reduce the amount of trash in the “Great Pacific Garbage Patch”. They were entered in the Senior Environmental Ambassador’s category.

Students who had also competed at the district level were Stormi Pierce, Nichole Reece and Summer Craig with a project on Reducing Childhood Obesity, Sydney Nease’s Housing and Interior Design project, Lexie Dell and Jacque Kappell with a Food Innovations project and Amy Lee who competed in the Illustrated Talk category.
