Students Take Part In Adventure Course At Jones Center

— Connie Curry, Family and Consumer Science teacher and director of the Lion Pride Academy at Gravette High School, recently took about 15 of her students to Springdale to participate in the Team Adventure Course (TAC) at the Jones Center.

“Helping people build self esteem and team strength through problem solving and goal setting are aims of TAC,” Curry said as she explained the group discussed with a TAC team leader the activities the students would be involved in.

“One of the activities involved getting the whole group on a board that teetered in the middle and figuring out how as a team we could get the board to balance,” Curry said. “After four different strategies we finally got everyone on the board balanced in a moment of triumph.” Other activities the students participated in were more complicated such as climbing a 33-foot pole, walking across a wire to a tower and then zipping to the ground. This was hard because “our legs shook but crossing the wire and reaching the tower was a great feeling of accomplishment and the zip down the line is like a reward.” At the end of the day students were given index cards to describe one thing learned from the TAC experience. “Most of the comments were how we learned to cooperate with others and how to be a better team player,” the students’ instructor said.
