Decatur restores baccalaureate service tradition for graduates

— The Ministerial Alliance rekindleda tradition and hosted the first Baccalaureate service to be held in Decatur in many years on May 19.

Graduating seniors and their parents were honored at the service held at the First Baptist Church. Parents and students ate dinner and followed a special program.

The First Baptist Church usually hosts a luncheon for seniors, but it has been a number of years since there has been a baccalaureate service in Decatur, according to Darlene Holly. She estimated that the community has gone without the traditional program for 20 or 30 years.

“We hope to start a new tradition,” Pastor Rodney Davis said.
