Athletic Booster Club chicken dinner

The Gentry High School Athletic Booster Club will have a chicken dinner fundraiser today, Wednesday, May 26, from 3 to 7 p.m., in the high school lobby.

School Choice applications

The Gentry Public School District will receive Public School Choice applications until June 30. An information sheet and an application may be downloaded at www.gentrypioneers.com or picked up in person at the superintendent’s office during office hours.

Coupon Class

The Total Life Community Center will be hosting a free coupon class at 7 p.m., May 26. Jessica Tharp will be teaching the techniques of using coupons, where to obtain them and how to get the maximum benefit from them. Some have saved between 30 to 50 percent on their grocery bill. The class will be held at the TLCC on Highway 59 south of Gentry. For more information, call 736-8231.

Fairmount Cemetery meeting

The annual Fairmount Cemetery potluck luncheon, with a business meeting to follow, will begin at 12:30 p.m., Sunday, May 30, at the Fairmount Community Building, across the road from the cemetery. Donations are welcome. The Fairmount Cemetery Association will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the cemetery in 2012 and a memorial publication is planned. The association invites everyone to bring stories of families and individuals buried in the cemetery for this publication. They can be given to Theresa Alcorn or any officer of the cemetery association.

Highfill Cemetery Memorial

The Highfill Cemetery Memorial observance will be held at 11 a.m., Sunday, May 30, at the Highfill Community Building. A pot-luck lunch will follow.

Douglas Cemetery decoration service

Douglas Cemetery in Highfill will conduct its decoration service at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 30, with Pastor Bruce Holland. Friends and relatives are invited to attend. Donations to the cemetery for maintenance and upkeep are encouraged and can be mailed to Marilyn Wade, Treasurer, 13508 W Hwy 264, Gentry, AR 72734.

Grief support group

A grief support group meets in the fellowship hall at the Victory Missionary Baptist Church, 1120 East Main Street in Gentry, at 7 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays of each month. The group is facilitated by Pastor Larry Hendren, who was trained in grief counseling through the clinical pastoral education program at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale.

The Miss Colcord Pageant is set for May 29. The pageant is open to contestants from all surrounding areas. Pageant categories include kindergarten through grade 12. For more information, call 918-314-9613 or send an e-mail to colcordchamber @ yahoo.com.

Old Settlers’ Day

Old Settlers’ Day in Colcord is set for June 5. The day includes free food in the city park at noon, live music and children’s games. A parade is planned for 11 a.m. A rodeo is planned for June 4 and 5.

Gentry City Council

The Gentry City Council holds regular meetings in the city court room at 6:30 p.m., the first Monday of each month. The Gentry Planning and Zoning Commission meets in city hall at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month.

Gentry Lions Club

The Gentry Lions Club meets from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. The club is now meeting in the Gentry Public Library’s community room. Visitors are always welcome.

VFW Meetings

The Gentry/Decatur VFW Post meets on the first Tuesday of each month - at 7:30 p.m. during the warmer months. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is 3 miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102, right on Tilly’s Hill Road, and the first building on the right.

Pickin’ in the Park

Pickin’ in the Park is held at 6:30 p.m., the last Saturday of each month, at the Gentry Senior Activity Center. Musicians and music lovers are invited to come and join in or just sit back and enjoy the music.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry on Falling Springs Road.
