GRAVETTE - “The Gravette High School Scholastic Book Fair was a great success,” said Janna Sharp, librarian. “And what helped make it a success was a poster contest in which Mollie Hendrick’s art students participated.

“Volunteer judges had a hard time selecting the best from all the creative poster entries,” the librarian added.

Cally Irvin took first place; Stormi Pierce, second place; and Taylor Kean and Hailey Kara tied for third-place awards.

The posters were displayed in the Lion Gallery and Library Media Center for Parent-Teacher Conference Day and parents and community members hadthe opportunity to view them.

Another event for the fair was a “What Would You Do For Reading?” contest which involved a challenge to beat the fair’s $2,500 goal.

Once reached, locker ticket winners were drawn and winning students were able to pelt Ian Galloway, drama instructor, with water balloons. The winners were Dallas Banta, Hayley Arnold, Rachel Carson, Thad Westrick, Josh Lockhart, Christian Clevenger, Carson Alsup, Ashley Steenberger, Ethan Vanderpool, Aaron Homer, Hayden James, Seth Colville, Mario Hernandez, Celia Ramirez, Desirae Lott, Adrian Holland, Taylor Kean, Rebekah Morris, Brian Smithers and Cody Bullock.

“Thanks to the art students, Mrs. Hendrick, Mr. Galloway, the poster contest judges, book fair volunteers, Mrs. Finnell, Mrs. Hastings and the GHS English teachers for making our book fair such a great success,” Sharp said.
