Gravette pursuit leads to recovery of car-jacked vehicle

GRAVETTE - A high speed chase from Gravette through western Benton County Saturday night ended on Country Club Road near Siloam Springs with the recovery of a vehicle stolen in Texas.

According to the Gravette Police Department, Officer Travis Grant attempted to make a routine traffic stop on a late model white Acura on Arkansas Highway 59 near Irving Street about 11:30 p.m.

The vehicle fled the scene and Grant and Officer James Boothman pursued the vehicle south on Highway 59 through Decatur, Gentry and Siloam Springs.

“Gentry police were ableto obtain the vehicle’s speed using radar, which clocked the vehicle reaching speeds of 115 miles per hour,” the police report said.

“It left the road on Country Club Road and traveled through three fences as the occupant(s) eluded the officer. When located, it was discovered the vehicle had been stolen at gunpoint in Texas and it’s license plate was also stolen from another vehicle.”

Gentry and Siloam Springs Police and Benton County Sheriff deputies participated in the chase. Decatur officers were involved in another incident at the time, the Gravette report stated.
