Key Club blood drive

The Gravette High School Key Club is sponsoring an American Red Cross Blood Drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday, Nov. 8, at the High School parking lot. If there are enough donors, there will be an opportunity for a student to receive a scholarship, according to Jayna Cardetti, Communications Coordinator at Ozarks Community Hospital of Gravette.

Booked for Lunch

Booked for Lunch at Gentry Public Library will be held on Monday, Nov. 8, and will feature fire safety in the home, with Gentry Fire Chief Vester Cripps being the featured speaker. On Dec. 13, Gentry Police Chief Keith Smith will speak about personal safety during the holidays. The Booked for Lunch events are from Noon to 1 p.m. Attendees should bring a sack lunch. Cookies from the Wooden Spoon and drinks will be provided. A door-prize drawing is at 12:30.

Decatur City Hall Closing

The Decatur City Hall will be closed on Nov. 11 in honor of Veterans Day. Meet the Bulldogs

The Decatur High School basketball teams will hold a Meet the Bulldogs event for parents and community members at 6 p.m., Nov. 12, in the high school gym. The event will include a pie auction to raise money for the basketball teams.

Old Computers Needed

The Gentry Lions Club is collecting and refurbishing older computers and giving them to students in need of a computer. Older computers - up to about 10 years old - are being accepted. Hard drives are reformatted and a lighter Linux-based operating system and programs are installed. Revival Set

A revival will be held at the Gravette Bible Missionary Church, 778 Limekiln Rd., Nov. 5-14, with services beginning at 7 p.m. each night andat 6 p.m. on Sunday. The services will be led by Isaiah McCarthy and Joe Oswalt. For more information, call the church at 787-6572.

Senior Nights

The Decatur Bulldogs will celebrate senior night during the Nov. 5 game against Magazine. Gentry will honor seniors and their parents at it’s home game against Ozark. Kickoff at both games is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Gentry Limb Pickup Day

A curbside limb pickup with Gentry’s city limits has been set for one day only on Dec. 6. Limbs must be placed curbside and not left in the alley. The contracted service will make one pass only, so limbs must be curbside prior to the pickup.

Decatur School Board

The Decatur School Board meets at 6 p.m., on the third Monday each month, in the professional development room of the former middle school building next to the high school cafeteria.

Decatur City Council

Decatur City Council meetings are held at 6 p.m., the second Monday of the month, in the city council room. For more information, call 752-3912.

Gravette City Meetings

Gravette City Council meetings are held at 7 p.m. every fourth Thursday of each month in the Gravette Civic Center, 401 Charlotte Street SE. Committee of the Whole departmental meetings are held at 5:30 p.m. every second Thursday of the month at City Hall, 604 First Ave. SE. Gravette Planning Commission meetings are held the second Monday of the month at 406 A Main Street NE. For more information, call 787-5757.

Gravette Library Commission

The regular monthly meeting of the Gravette Library Commission will be held next Tuesday, Nov. 9, at the library. The meeting begins at 3 p.m. and Mayor Bill Howard, the city business manager and a representative of the Arkansas State Library will be guests. The public is invited. Items onthe agenda include election of officers for 2011, selection of Commission honorees for 2010 and making plans for the December meeting.

Gravette Schools Flu Shots

Flu shots will be administered at the elementary and middle school on Nov. 8 and 9 and in the high school on Nov. 9. The one-time shot contains vaccine for both the H1N1 (Swine Flu) strain and the regular/traditional flu strain. Benton County health officials, as well as staff members from the Ozarks Community Hospital/Clinic and student volunteers, will assist the school nurses in the project.

Decatur Food Pantry

The Decatur Food Pantry is open from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays. The pantry offers free food to Decatur residents. The pantry is located inside the United Methodist Church in Decatur. Participants need to bring identification and a current utility bill in their name with a Decatur address. For more information, contact 752-3551.

Gravette Public Library

Gravette’s Public Library is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The library is Internet equipped and has an extensive children’s section. Past copies of The Gravette News Herald, dating to 1894, are available on microfilm for genealogical research.

Gentry City Council

The Gentry City Council holds regular meetings in the city court room at 6:30 p.m., the first Monday of each month. The Gentry Planning and Zoning Commission meets in city hall at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month.

Gentry School Board

The Gentry School Board holds regular meetings at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month in the school district board room.

Springtown Council

The Springtown Council meets at 6 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month, in the new community building.

Town of Highfill

Highfill’s next council meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 16, at the Highfill Community Building. The planning commission meeting is at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 23.

Gentry Lions Club

The Gentry Lions Club meets from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. The club is now meeting in the Gentry Public Library’s community room. Visitors are always welcome.

VFW Meetings

The Gentry/Decatur VFW Post meets on the first Tuesday of each month - at 7:00 p.m. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is 3 miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102, right on Tilly’s Hill Road, and the first building on the right.

Gravette Historical Museum

The Gravette Historical Museum, located in the historic Kindley Home at 503 Charlotte S.E. is open Tuesday and Saturday afternoons from noon until 4 p.m. and on Thursdays from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Displays include those germane to Gravette and the surrounding area and includes photos of all Gravette High School graduating classes dating to the early 1900s. There is no admission.

Gentry Senior Activity Center

Gentry Senior Activity Center, at 121 East Main Street (just east of the Gentry Public Library) is open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Meals and rides to the center and activities are available Monday through Friday by calling Jackie Bader, the center’s manager, at 736-0378. Van routes are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday - Gentry, Highfill and Springtown; and Tuesday and Friday - Gentry and Decatur.

Gravette Senior Activity Center

The Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center, at 1870 Limekiln Road, is open from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Center is one of seven operated by the Office of Human Concern, Inc. in partnership with the Area Agency on Aging of NW Arkansas and United Way of NW Arkansas. Many activities are scheduled and lunch is served every weekday. For information on hot home-delivered meals for Gravette, Decatur and Sulphur Springs, frozen home-delivered meals for Maysville home-bound seniors or other services the center offers, call Mary Kay Kelley, director, at 787-5950.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Address Markers

Gentry Fire Department has reflective address markers available to help responders locate a home or apartment quickly in the event of an emergency. The reflective address markers are only $10 and are made to last for years. For more information, call 228-0694. The signs are also available from the Highfill Volunteer FireDepartment. Those in the Highfill Fire District may obtain the signs for $10 by calling 736-5711 or stopping at the Highfill City Hall.

Decatur Public Library

Decatur library hours are 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Decatur Assembly of God Van Service

Van service is available to children and adults who need transportation to Sunday morning and evening church services and Wednesday evening services at the Assembly of God Church in Decatur. For more information, contact Stacy Brooks at 790-7171.

Support Group to Meet

A men’s and women’s support group for drug and alcohol dependency will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays at the Gentry Senior Activity Center, 121 E. Main Street, next-door to the Gentry Public Library. The meetings are open to all. For more information, call Kim at 233-1391.
